In 1961, our father Arturo Ruiz took a chance on his dream. He came to the United States on a work permit in search of his American dream of establishing his family in this great country. After years of hard work, saving, and preparation, he accomplished his goal.
His first restaurant/market was opened in the city of Van Nuys in 1982. With our mother, Maria, at this side, our family grew, and the business flourished.
In 1993, he made another major decision with our mother and now six children. In the best interest of his family, he decided to leave Los Angeles County and attempt to establish a new restaurant in the more family-friendly city of Arvin, California. It was a family effort to grow the new eatery, and it was during this time that we, the elder children, grew to be business partners as well. A new goal was born; to expand the business through the county but always maintain the family feel and authenticity of the menu.
Arturo and Maria Ruiz, along with us – Chela, Art, Alex, Omar, Lizzet & Anais – and our families would like to express the deepest and sincerest gratitude to Kern County. You have embraced our family and our businesses throughout the years. We proudly call Bakersfield home and hope to continue to serve the best in Mexican food for years to come.
